Firstly, Isn’t the world just a beautiful place. A place filled with nature, sunshine, holidays, memories, people, good food and… DOUGHNUTS! I mean, what is a world without doughnuts and what is a doughnut without the world. We are inspired daily by everything around us to create the PERFECT Project D doughnut. We’re inspired by colours, sounds, drinks, films, animals, songs…. You name it and we’re inspired by it! So, do you want to know how we create a Project D doughnut? Of course you do! We’ll let you into our secrets… Well, not all of them! Shhh!
It all begins in the doughnut workshop ~ this is the bakery of course! ~ where the head baker and their team of baking wizards come together to conjure up the most delicious doughnut idea yet. Yep, that’s right, a doughnut that’s even more delicious than the last! Tough, right? With ideas bouncing off the floors, ceilings, walls and windows, we really do have doughnut ideas coming out of our ears… and into our belly (they’re just too hard to resist!).
With a room full of doughnut ideas and the oven nice and hot, a dough that’s doughier than dough is handmade with love ~ and a few secret Project D ingredients ~ to create the perfect doughnut base. With a dash of this and a sprinkle of that, this golden doughy beauty is the thing dreams are made of. Soft, fluffy, airy, light, tasty ~ free from artificial ingredients ~ and ready to be decorated…
Come with us, let’s move from the doughnut workshop to the tasting room ~ where we get to test and taste the ideas. YUM! ~ and this is where your tastebuds are taken on the journey of a lifetime! Imagine this; a room as pink as a flamingo filled with every chocolate bar, biscuit and sweet your hungry brain can think of… well, we don’t have to imagine, we have it RIGHT HERE. In the bakery. And this is where the magic happens. Chocolate is being drizzled, biscuits are being crumbled and sweets are being… EATEN! The sugar rush helps with the creation process… that’s what we tell ourselves anyway!
It’s not an easy task creating a doughnut that’s loved by the nation you know. We can assure you we have tried some, let’s say, weird and whacky flavours that haven’t quite made it to the pop up shops for your tastebuds to “enjoy”. One being beans… yes, that’s right. BAKED. BEANS. Oh dear, let’s move swiftly on! The moment it reaches you guys, we want it to be perfect, Project D perfect! So, once we’ve had our fun with the more whacky creations, we come a little more down to Earth ~ only a little though ~ and get creative with the Nation’s favourites. There’s Lotus biscuits, Maltesers Bunnies, Jammie Dodgers, Lion Bars and Happy Hippos galore! There’s lots of chocolate in the air and lots of sugar everywhere… literally.
Once we’ve tried and tasted our delicious doughnut creations, the baking wizards are good to get going. Roll. Bake. Mix. Pour. ~ have a dance break ~ Drizzle. Decorate. Box. Send. Repeat. And that’s pretty much it, with a few secrets we’ve kept hidden of course. We can’t give it all away can we…
